SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 129

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING COACH BILL WARD 1
UPON HIS INDUCTION INTO THE PRESTIGIOUS NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL 2
ATHLETIC COACHES ASSOCIATION HALL OF FAME. 3
WHEREAS, we join the Mississippi Association of Coaches in 4
congratulating Coach Bill Ward upon his selection for induction 5
into the prestigious National High School Athletic Coaches 6
Association (NHSACA) Hall of Fame; and 7
WHEREAS, Coach Bill Ward is a long-time Mississippi 8
Association of Coaches member who has made substantial 9
contributions to athletics in Mississippi; and 10
WHEREAS, Bill Ward, a native of Ackerman and a former 11
Kosciusko Whippets coach, spent more than 30 years coaching 12
football, girls basketball, and track across the state. A French 13
Camp alumnus, he began his tenure in Kosciusko in 1981, serving 14
three years as head coach for track and girls basketball while 15
also working as an assistant football coach for the Whippets. 16
After leaving Kosciusko, Ward moved to Pelahatchie, where he built 17
a long and successful career spanning 33 years. His 18

accomplishments in Pelahatchie include leading his football team 19
to a state championship in 2001. Ward's contributions to 20
athletics extended beyond the field. He was inducted into the 21
Mississippi Association of Coaches Hall of Fame in 2021 and served 22
on the MAC Board of Directors from 2000 to 2013. He later held 23
leadership roles as Vice President from 2013 to 2014 and President 24
from 2014 to 2015; and 25
WHEREAS, Ward is one of two longtime MAC members selected 26
this year for national induction, joining fellow Mississippi Coach 27
Anthony Jenkins. The honor places Ward among an elite group of 28
coaches from across the country who have made lasting 29
contributions to high school athletics; and 30
WHEREAS, it is the purpose of the NHSACA to provide 31
instruction and training to high schools in order to develop and 32
improve the capabilities of coaches, and to recognize coaches' 33
outstanding careers and contributions to high school sports; and 34
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize a respected 35
Mississippi high school coach whose national recognition has 36
brought honor to his former teams, his community, his family and 37
to the State of Mississippi: 38
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 39
MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Coach Bill 40
Ward upon his induction into the prestigious National High School 41
Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame and extend the best 42
