SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 131
A RESOLUTION DECLARING THAT APRIL 2, 2026, IS "DRIVE TO 1
ARRIVE DAY" ENCOURAGING STUDENTS, FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES ACROSS 2
THE STATE TO COMMIT TO DISTRACTION-FREE DRIVING. 3
WHEREAS, Mississippi continues to rank among the states with 4
the highest rates of teen driving fatalities. Last year alone, 88 5
teenagers lost their lives in car crashes. Each of these lives 6
represents a future cut short and families forever changed. These 7
are not just numbers; they are classmates, friends, and neighbors; 8
and 9
WHEREAS, Mattie Grace Morris, Miss Mississippi Volunteer 10
2026, has spent the past year working alongside the Mississippi 11
Highway Patrol as the official spokesperson of the D.R.I.V.E. 12
campaign, speaking with students across the state about safe 13
driving. Through these conversations, she has seen firsthand that 14
distracted driving is a serious and growing issue, particularly 15
among young drivers; and 16
WHEREAS, because of this, Mattie Grace believes the state has 17
an opportunity to make a meaningful difference by raising 18

Arrive Day" in Mississippi to commit to
distraction-free driving.
awareness and uniting communities around safe driving. April is 19
nationally recognized as Distracted Driving Awareness Month, 20
making it an ideal time for Mississippi to take action: 21
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 22
MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby declare April 2, 2026, to be "Drive 23
to Arrive Day" in Mississippi in observance of National Distracted 24
Driving Awareness Month encouraging students, families and 25
communities across the state to commit to distraction-free 26
driving. 27
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to 28
Mattie Grace Morris as the official spokesperson of the D.R.I.V.E. 29
campaign with the Mississippi Highway Patrol, transmitted to the 30
Commissioner of Public Safety for appropriate distribution, and 31
made available to the Capitol Press Corps. 32
