MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE REGULAR SESSION 2026
By: Senator(s) Carter, Thompson, DuPree,
Seymour, Simmons (12th)
SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 19
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE GULFPORT HIGH 1
SCHOOL ADMIRALS FOOTBALL TEAM AND COACH BLAKE PENNOCK FOR WINNING 2
THEIR FIRST-EVER STATE MHSAA 7A TITLE GAME IN A THRILLING WALK-OFF 3
VICTORY AND FOR THE MOST WINS IN A SEASON. 4
WHEREAS, the Gulfport High School Admirals won their 5
first-ever football championship on December 7, 2025, defeating 6
Tupelo 21-20 in the MHSAA 7A title game with a last-second Hail 7
Mary pass and extra point, a historic win for the Admirals; and 8
WHEREAS, the championship was a thrilling walk-off victory, 9
securing the program's first state title and the most wins in a 10
season, 12, for Gulfport. It was Gulfport's first State 11
Championship appearance in 43 years. Gulfport also scored 514 12
points in 2025, breaking another program record; and 13
WHEREAS, with 20 seconds remaining, down to last season's 7A 14
State Champion Tupelo and the score 20-14 in Tupelo's favor, 15
Gulfport recovered the ball and was methodical with how they moved 16
it. A few quick first-down passes by Parker Nettles and a timeout 17
gave the offense one more play from 33 yards out. Gulfport drew 18
up what was essentially a Hail Mary, or as Coach Blake Pennock 19

calls it, "The Rebound" play. Somehow, someway Mylan Stubbs was 20
able to come down with it with at least five Tupelo defenders in 21
the area. After Stubbs' catch, Carter Platt trotted onto the 22
field and easily knocked in the PAT with no time remaining to help 23
make history in Gulfport's road to a championship; and 24
WHEREAS, "When you run a play that these guys frequently go 25
through, they execute it easily. I have coached a number of good 26
quarterbacks in my career and Parker Nettles is one of the best at 27
finishing up the drive in 20 seconds," Coach Pennock said; and 28
WHEREAS, in what was mostly a tale of two halves, Gulfport 29
(12-2) controlled the ball in the first half with lengthy 30
touchdown runs of 54 and 20 yards by Mississippi State signee 31
Cooper Crosby. The half-time score was 14-7 with the Admirals 32
having the advantage. On the opening series of the second half, 33
Tupelo (13-2) drove down the field in 13 plays and ended the drive 34
with an eight-yard touchdown run by Kylan Bobo. The game was tied 35
14-14 going into the fourth quarter. After both teams traded 36
possessions for most of the final period, Tupelo running back and 37
7A Player of the Year Jaeden Hill was able to break the tie when 38
he squeezed into the end zone from three yards out with 27 seconds 39
remaining. The Tupelo Golden Wave missed the extra point, which 40
quickly came back to haunt them as Gulfport won it all on the 41
game-winning pass and catch along with the successful field goal; 42
and 43
