SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 24
A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE POSITIVE CULTURAL INFLUENCE AND 1
CONTRIBUTION OF JAMAL ROBERTS, SENSATIONAL SOUL/GOSPEL SINGER AND 2
AMERICAN IDOL WINNER FROM MERIDIAN, MISSISSIPPI, WHO SANG THE 3
NATIONAL ANTHEM AT THE 2026 COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF NATIONAL 4
CHAMPIONSHIP, BRINGING HONOR TO HIS HOME STATE AND COMMUNITY. 5
WHEREAS, Jamal Roberts is an outstanding American soul/gospel 6
singer from Meridian, Mississippi, who won Season 23 of American 7
Idol in 2025, becoming a breakout artist known for his powerful 8
voice, faith-based music, and background as a P.E. teacher and 9
father of three, earning him a Grammy nomination and a recording 10
contract; and 11
WHEREAS, Jamal Roberts is known for his emotionally rich 12
vocals and unforgettable performances when he delivers a soulful 13
set in an intimate setting. His events are in great demand, 14
generating funds for programs such as Alcorn State University 15
Athletics; and 16
WHEREAS, Mississippi was still represented on the field even 17
though the Ole Miss Rebels didn't play in the 2026 College 18
Football Playoff National Championship. Jamal Roberts sang the 19

national anthem prior to kickoff during the National Championship 20
on January 19, 2026; and 21
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we commend an incredible 22
Mississippi talent whose dedication and commitment to musical 23
excellence have made a lasting impact on the music industry and 24
brought honor to the State of Mississippi: 25
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 26
MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize the positive cultural 27
influence and contribution of Jamal Roberts, sensational 28
soul/gospel singer and American idol winner from Meridian, 29
Mississippi, who sang the national anthem at the 2026 College 30
Football Playoff National Championship, bringing honor to his home 31
state and community, and extend our best wishes to Jamal and his 32
family on his outstanding achievement. 33
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to 34
Jamal Roberts and his family, forwarded to the Cleveland Grammy 35
Museum, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps. 36
