SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 29

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING DANIEL WILE OF 1
MERIDIAN, MISSISSIPPI, AS THE STATE GAMES OF MISSISSIPPI 2025 MALE 2
ATHLETE OF THE YEAR. 3
WHEREAS, the State Games of Mississippi 2025 Ochsner Rush 4
Health Athletes of the Year were recognized by the Mississippi 5
State Legislature and Governor Tate Reeves during a visit to the 6
Capitol in March; and 7
WHEREAS, the 2025 Games featured more than 5,200 athletes 8
competing in more than 40 events across 18 counties, and three 9
athletes personified the ideals of the State Games in 10
participation, sportsmanship, special achievements and positive 11
attitudes; and 12
WHEREAS, the three athletes, who each competed in the 2025 13
games, were unique contributors to their individual sports, and 14
thus were named Ochsner Rush Health Athletes of the Year: Daniel 15
Wile of Meridian (Male Athlete of the Year), Aubrey Lynn Atchison 16
of Biloxi (Youth Athlete of the Year), and Kaytelyn Harris of 17
Quitman (Female Athlete of the Year); and 18

WHEREAS, "It is a great honor to be recognized by our 19
statewide lawmakers and Governor Reeves," said Missye Dozier, 20
Executive Director of the Games. "State Games holds sporting 21
events throughout the state, creating multiple opportunities for 22
amateur athletes and contributing to the economies of each city in 23
which they are held"; and 24
WHEREAS, Daniel Wile of Meridian, Mississippi, has been 25
involved in endurance sports for more than a decade. He has 26
participated in the State Games of Mississippi twice, earning one 27
Gold and one Silver Medal in cycling, as well as two Gold and two 28
Silver Medals in Masters Swimming; and 29
WHEREAS, a passionate cyclist, Daniel posted a remarkable 30
time of 00:55:14.76 in this year's cycling event — just 31
milliseconds behind the gold medalist. His love of the sport 32
began through triathlon training, and over the years he has 33
completed three Ironman races, including the prestigious 2022 34
Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. He was also named the 35
2021 Heart O' Dixie Triathlon Champion; and 36
WHEREAS, Daniel said he enjoys the opportunity to focus 37
solely on cycling during the State Games: "When you don't have to 38
save your energy for the run, you really get to empty the tank and 39
see what you can do." Off the course, he balances training with a 40
busy life and credits his wife and family for their continued 41
support and encouragement; and 42

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these 43
athletes who have brought honor to their city, their community and 44
to the State of Mississippi: 45
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 46
MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Daniel 47
Wile of Meridian, Mississippi, as the State Games of Mississippi 48
2025 Male Athlete of the Year, and extend to Daniel and his family 49
our best wishes for future success. 50
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to 51
Daniel Wile and his family, forwarded to the State Games of 52
Mississippi, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps. 53
