SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 31
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING KAYTELYN HARRIS OF 1
QUITMAN, MISSISSIPPI, AS THE STATE GAMES OF MISSISSIPPI 2025 2
FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR. 3
WHEREAS, the State Games of Mississippi 2025 Ochsner Rush 4
Health Athletes of the Year were recognized by the Mississippi 5
State Legislature and Governor Tate Reeves during a visit to the 6
Capitol in March; and 7
WHEREAS, the 2025 Games featured more than 5,200 athletes 8
competing in more than 40 events across 18 counties, and three 9
athletes personified the ideals of the State Games in 10
participation, sportsmanship, special achievements and positive 11
attitudes; and 12
WHEREAS, the three athletes, who each competed in the 2025 13
games, were unique contributors to their individual sports, and 14
thus were named Ochsner Rush Health Athletes of the Year: 15
Kaytelyn Harris of Quitman (Female Athlete of the Year), Aubrey 16
Lynn Atchison of Biloxi (Youth Athlete of the Year), and Daniel 17
Wile of Meridian (Male Athlete of the Year); and 18

WHEREAS, "It is a great honor to be recognized by our 19
statewide lawmakers and Governor Reeves," said Missye Dozier, 20
Executive Director of the Games. "State Games holds sporting 21
events throughout the state, creating multiple opportunities for 22
amateur athletes and contributing to the economies of each city in 23
which they are held"; and 24
WHEREAS, Kaytelyn Harris of Quitman has only been playing 25
disc golf for a year and a half, but she's already earned 26
back-to-back Gold Medals in the State Games of Mississippi and 27
placed in ten tournaments across the region; and 28
WHEREAS, this year, she reached a personal milestone by 29
shooting her best tournament round at just four strokes over par. 30
She said the biggest challenge isn't physical, but mental: "I 31
work at getting out of my head and just throwing. Each round, I 32
make a conscious effort to just have fun and enjoy the sport, no 33
matter the score"; and 34
WHEREAS, as a single mom to three young children, Kaytelyn 35
found disc golf during a difficult time — and with it, a 36
supportive community. "She's out there every chance she gets — 37
rain or shine. Her dedication and improvement have been 38
incredible to watch," said Disc Golf Commissioner Bruce Bullock; 39
and 40
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these 41
athletes who have brought honor to their city, their community and 42
to the State of Mississippi: 43

ST: Commend Kaytelyn Harris as State Games of
Mississippi 2025 Female Athlete of the Year.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 44
MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Kaytelyn 45
Harris of Quitman, Mississippi, as the State Games of Mississippi 46
2025 Female Athlete of the Year, and extend to Kaytelyn and her 47
family our best wishes for future success. 48
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to 49
Kaytelyn Harris and her family, forwarded to the State Games of 50
Mississippi, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps. 51
