SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 34
A RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING VARDAMAN HIGH SCHOOL JUNIOR ELI 1
EDMONDSON FOR WINNING THE MHSAA CLASS 1A INDIVIDUAL STATE GOLF 2
CHAMPIONSHIP. 3
WHEREAS, we join the students, coaches, faculty and 4
administration of Vardaman High School in extending 5
congratulations to Junior Eli Edmondson for winning the 6
Mississippi Class 1A Individual State Golf Championship on October 7
31, 2025; and 8
WHEREAS, this championship is a significant achievement 9
celebrated by his school and local media, with his team also 10
placing second in the State 1A Tournament, solidifying a 11
successful season for the young golfer; and 12
WHEREAS, Eli won his first state golf title shooting a 13
two-day total of 140, two under par, to earn top honors while 14
helping his team to a state runner-up finish; and 15
WHEREAS, "I was certainly excited for myself, but I was proud 16
for all our team," Edmondson said; and 17

WHEREAS, the championship was played at Hillandale in Corinth 18
where Edmondson described the greens as "pretty fast," but the 19
course overall "not too bad." "The first day I wasn't very clean. 20
I had a bunch of bogeys, but I managed to knock in a lot of 21
birdies, too," Edmondson said; and 22
WHEREAS, Eli held a four-stroke lead entering day two. "l 23
just stayed aggressive. I played pretty much the same way I did 24
the first day. Just trying to extend the lead, not trying to give 25
it up, not trying to keep it the same. Most of the time when I 26
try to protect a lead or protect any kind of shots, it always ends 27
up going bad, because I'm not playing as free. So I just play 28
aggressive, play how I normally play. I generally play better 29
that way," Edmondson said; and 30
WHEREAS, Edmondson, who has already had a lot of success on 31
the golf course, took winning the state title in stride. "I was 32
excited, but at the same time, it kind of made me realize that I 33
don't need to take anything for granted, because it can all slip 34
away. I'm motivated to build on this year's success next year. 35
It's holding yourself up to a high standard. You still have to go 36
out there and put in the time, the effort, and just try to get 37
better every day," Edmondson said; and 38
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this young 39
golfer who has brought honor to his school, his community and to 40
the State of Mississippi: 41

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 42
MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby congratulate Vardaman High School 43
Junior Eli Edmondson for winning the MHSAA Class 1A Individual 44
State Golf Championship, and extend to Eli and his family our best 45
wishes for future success. 46
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to 47
Eli Edmondson and the Vardaman High School Golf Coaches, on behalf 48
of the team, and forwarded to Vardaman High School Principal Lucas 49
Ferguson, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps. 50
