A RESOLUTION EXTENDING THE CONDOLENCES OF THE MISSISSIPPI 1
SENATE TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF MRS. DONNA JILL JOHNSON OF 2
MERIDIAN, MISSISSIPPI, THE FIRST REPUBLICAN CIRCUIT CLERK ELECTED 3
IN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, WHO SERVED WITH INTEGRITY FOR 32 4
YEARS. 5
WHEREAS, it is with sadness that we join the family and 6
friends of Mrs. Donna Jill Johnson of Meridian, Mississippi, who 7
passed away on February 5, 2026, at the age of 80; and 8
WHEREAS, Donna Jill was the very first Republican Circuit 9
Clerk elected in Mississippi, serving the people of Lauderdale 10
County and the State of Mississippi with integrity and competence 11
for over 32 years; and 12
WHEREAS, she possessed a wonderful sense of humor, which her 13
numerous friends and colleagues enjoyed daily. She certainly 14
lived life to the fullest and cherished time with family and 15
friends and had an undying love of animals. She loved Meridian 16
and the people of Meridian; and 17
WHEREAS, Donna Jill is survived by her loving sister and best 18
friend, Lynne J. Grimes; brother, Duane Johnson; a host of nieces, 19

nephews, and numerous cousins, in both Mississippi and Texas; as 20
well as special friends, Jeff Tate, Ann Watts, Ann O'Leary, and 21
Dianne Hackett. She is preceded in death by her parents, Hermon 22
Gray Johnson, Jr., and Dorothy Duane Johnson; brother, Gray and 23
sister-in-law, Peggy Joyce Johnson; and 24
WHEREAS, we pay tribute and cherish fondly the memory of this 25
most public-spirited citizen of Mississippi with enormous civic 26
energy who will be missed: 27
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 28
MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby extend the condolences of the 29
Mississippi Senate to the family and friends of Mrs. Donna Jill 30
Johnson of Meridian, Mississippi, the first Republican Circuit 31
Clerk elected in the State of Mississippi, who served with 32
integrity for 32 years, and offer our tribute to her memory. 33
