A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE LOYD STAR HIGH 1
SCHOOL GIRLS AND BOYS GOLF TEAMS AND COACH JONATHAN BREAKFIELD FOR 2
WINNING BOTH THE GIRLS AND BOYS 2025 CLASS 2A STATE GOLF 3
CHAMPIONSHIPS. 4
WHEREAS, in a historic achievement, Loyd Star High School 5
captured both the Girls and Boys 2025 Class 2A State Golf 6
Championships, cementing the program's place among the elite in 7
Mississippi; and 8
WHEREAS, competing against the best teams from across the 9
state, the boys' and girls' squads delivered clutch performances 10
under pressure, showcasing depth, discipline, and a season's worth 11
of hard work. The rare double championship marks only the third 12
time in Mississippi history that both teams have claimed state 13
titles in the same year; and 14
WHEREAS, the girls' team secured its championship after a 15
tightly contested final round, pulling away from Tupelo Christian 16
late with consistent play on the back nine, to win by 7 strokes. 17
Junior Kaylin Hester led the charge, finishing at the top of the 18
individual leaderboard and securing medalist honors after firing a 19

78 and 80. Hester said, "This was a goal of ours. We wanted to 20
do something special. We have talked about it and worked so hard 21
to accomplish it." Other members of the girls' varsity team were 22
Sophomore Camille Creel, Freshman Ann Claire Case, and 7th Grader 23
Embry Hester; and 24
WHEREAS, not to be outdone, the boys' team dominated from 25
start to finish, entering the final round with a substantial lead 26
before widening the gap and eventually winning by 52 strokes, over 27
runner-up Baldwyn. Sophomore standout Brooklyn Lee delivered two 28
of the best rounds of the tournament, shooting a 72 and 68 while 29
helping seal the team championship, as well as individual 30
medalist. Lee said, "I love our team. It is so much fun being 31
around these guys. It is a big family." In high school golf, six 32
golfers play, with the top 4 scores of each round counted. In the 33
State Championship, a 73, 74, and 75 were discarded. Other 34
members of the boys' varsity team who competed include Seniors 35
Casen Easterling (Co-Lin), Riley Case (Co-Lin), and Brody 36
Thibodeaux (Meridian), along with Junior Phillip Ross Spencer and 37
Freshman Bentley Ferguson; and 38
WHEREAS, Head Coach Jonathan Breakfield, who oversees both 39
programs, credited the success to dedication and culture. "These 40
athletes put in countless hours, not just on their swings, but on 41
the mental side as well. Our boys team has had a lot of success 42
over the years and won several State Championships. To get the 43

girls one and to see both teams reach the top together is 44
incredibly rewarding," said Coach Breakfield; and 45
WHEREAS, the championships cap off remarkable seasons for 46
both squads, each finishing with multiple tournament victories. 47
The girls finished in the top ten in scoring average per 18 holes 48
in all divisions of the MHSAA, and the boys finished Number One, 49
ahead of all of the biggest schools and best programs in the 50
state. Support from families, teachers, and the community was 51
evident throughout the season and especially during the state 52
tournament, where school colors lined the fairway and surrounded 53
the green at the eighteenth hole as the golfers finished their 54
rounds and wrapped up their championships; and 55
WHEREAS, school administrators praised the teams for 56
representing Loyd Star with class and excellence, both on the golf 57
course and in the classroom. "This achievement goes beyond 58
trophies and rings. These are great kids and phenomenal students 59
as well," said Principal Seth Lofton; and 60
WHEREAS, with returning players already looking ahead to the 61
next season, the future of the Loyd Star golf program appears 62
bright. For now, though, the focus remains on celebrating a rare 63
and remarkable accomplishment: a clean sweep of the Girls and 64
Boys 2A State Golf Championships: 65
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 66
MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Loyd 67
Star High School Girls and Boys Golf Teams and Coach Jonathan 68
