SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 62
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SAINT 1
STANISLAUS ROCK-A-CHAWS AND HEAD COACH DANIEL GRIEVES FOR WINNING 2
THE 2026 BOYS CLASS 3A BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP. 3
WHEREAS, Saint Stanislaus High School built its lead in the 4
first half and went on to beat Quitman High School 49-36 on March 5
7, 2026, in the MHSAA boys Class 3A Championship game. Saint 6
Stanislaus led 18-12 after one quarter, stretched the margin to 7
32-22 by halftime and stayed in control the rest of the way; and 8
WHEREAS, the game was Saint Stanislaus' first boys basketball 9
state championship since 2011. The victory is the 14th in a row 10
for the Rock-a-Chaws (31-4) and makes 2026 the first time in 17 11
years that two Mississippi Coast schools have captured basketball 12
championships in the same year; and 13
WHEREAS, in the championship game, the decisive stretch came 14
late in the second quarter and carried into the third. Saint 15
Stanislaus turned a 25-20 lead into a 32-22 halftime edge, then 16
opened the third with Rafael Cohen Ramirez's basket for a 10-point 17
margin. Quitman got within 34-28 midway through the third, but 18

Saint Stanislaus answered with an 10-4 run keyed by Max Baria's 19
two dunks and another Cohen Ramirez basket to make it 44-32 20
entering the fourth; and 21
WHEREAS, Cohen Ramirez led Saint Stanislaus with 22 points, 22
five rebounds and 5-of-10 shooting at the foul line, while Max 23
Baria added 11 points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Alan 24
Gilliam scored nine points, and Jason Forte had seven points and 25
seven rebounds as Saint Stanislaus shot 17 of 31 from the field. 26
Ethan Nicholson led Quitman with 11 points, Jyshawn Bumpers added 27
eight points and eight rebounds, and Cadarius Buxton scored seven 28
points. Quitman shot 14 of 45 from the field and never got closer 29
than eight in the fourth quarter; and 30
WHEREAS, the championship was also the first Gold Ball for 31
the Saint Stanislaus boys since 2011, a championship team that 32
featured the Rock-a-Chaws' current head coach, Daniel Grieves, and 33
assistant coach, Ramone Tate. Coach Grieves was wearing his 34
championship ring from 2011 during the game; and 35

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these 45
student-athletes who have brought honor to their school, their 46
community and to the state of Mississippi: 47
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 48
MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Saint 49
Stanislaus Rock-a-Chaws and Head Coach Daniel Grieves for winning 50
the 2026 Boys Class 3A Basketball Championship, and extend to the 51
team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future 52
success. 53
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to 54
Coach Daniel Grieves and Saint Stanislaus Principal Nancy G. 55
Artigues for the team, forwarded to the Saint Stanislaus Board of 56
Directors and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps. 57
