A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE WARREN CENTRAL 1
HIGH SCHOOL BOYS AND GIRLS SWIM TEAMS AND HEAD COACH TERRY WONG 2
UPON WINNING THE 2025 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES 3
ASSOCIATION CLASS II STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS. 4
WHEREAS, the Warren Central High School Vikings Boys and 5
Girls Swim Teams made school history, as these were the first 6
state championships won by these remarkable teams, by capturing 7
the 2025 Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) 8
Class II State Championships; and 9
WHEREAS, this historic feat for these talented teams 10
solidified Warren Central's standing as one of the top swimming 11
programs in the state. Prior to the state championship wins, the 12
boys' team won three consecutive district championships under 13
Coach Wong's leadership; and 14
WHEREAS, during the state championship meet, which was held 15
on October 18, 2025, in Tupelo, Mississippi, the girls' team came 16
away as co-champions with West Jones High School while the boys' 17
team finished 20 points over runner-up, Pearl River Central High 18
School; and 19

WHEREAS, the girls' team of Kara Rowe, Addison Billings, 20
Avery Greer and Ella Opperman won the 400 freestyle in a time of 21
4:08.10 - 11 seconds ahead of West Jones - to force the tie at the 22
top of the team standings, and the girls' team of Sicily Smith, 23
Rowe, Greer and Billings won the 200 medley relay in a time of 24
2:04.69; and 25
WHEREAS, the boys' team won two relays, first taking the 200 26
medley relay in a time of 1:49.20 behind the quartet of James 27
McKenna, Thomas Kilroy, Ace Orosco and Jacob Byrd, and the boys 28
won the 400 free relay in a time of 3:34.07 with this same 29
foursome but with a different order of McKenna, Kilroy, Byrd and 30
Orosco; and 31
WHEREAS, although the boys' and girls' teams were dynamic in 32
their performances, winning four relay events and 19 top-four 33
finishes, additional honor was bestowed upon Avery Greer and Jacob 34
Byrd, who won individual titles in the girls' 200 yard and boys' 35
500 yard freestyle; and 36
WHEREAS, the Vikings swim teams have been superbly coached 37
and inspired by Head Coach Terry Wong, who has broadened and 38
refined the team members' skills in execution, which has 39
culminated into dual championships for the Vikings and speaks 40
volumes of his outstanding leadership; and 41
WHEREAS, the Vikings have been supported in their athletic 42
endeavors and can attribute much of their success to the 43
administration, staff, parents, fans and overall supporters whose 44

moral and spiritual encouragement remained steadfast throughout 45
the season; and 46
WHEREAS, the Vikings have developed a winning and cooperative 47
spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities 48
and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual team 49
members, Coach Wong and Warren Central High School; and 50
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these 51
student-athletes who have brought honor to their school, their 52
community and to the State of Mississippi: 53
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 54
MISSISSIPPI, That we commend and congratulate the Warren Central 55
High School Boys and Girls Swim Teams and Head Coach Terry Wong 56
upon winning the 2025 MHSAA Class II State Championships and 57
extend best wishes for future success. 58
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to 59
Warren Central High School Swim Coach Terry Wong and Warren 60
Central High School Principal Dr. Tonya Magee and transmitted to 61
the Warren Central School Board and made available to the Capitol 62
Press Corps. 63
