A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MISSISSIPPI 1
FORESTRY COMMISSION UPON THE OCCASION OF ITS 100TH ANNIVERSARY AND 2
COMMEMORATING ITS CENTURY OF SERVICE TO THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI. 3
WHEREAS, the Mississippi Forestry Commission was founded on 4
March 6, 1926, to provide leadership in the protection, management 5
and conservation of Mississippi's forest resources, and for the 6
past 100 years, the agency has steadfastly protected communities, 7
supported rural economies, and ensured Mississippi's forests 8
remain healthy and productive for future generations; and 9
WHEREAS, over the past century, the Mississippi Forestry 10
Commission has served the citizens of Mississippi by protecting 11
lives, property and forestlands through wildfire prevention, 12
suppression and emergency response, while promoting sound forest 13
management and stewardship practices; and 14
WHEREAS, Mississippi is home to approximately 19 million 15
acres of forestland, making forestry a cornerstone of the state's 16
economy, environment and quality of life, and the Mississippi 17
Forestry Commission plays a critical role in sustaining these 18

working forests, evolving to meet changing needs while continuing 19
to provide essential services that support jobs, landowners and 20
local government; and 21
WHEREAS, the Mississippi Forestry Commission is unwavering in 22
its commitment to its core responsibilities, including wildfire 23
response, forest health monitoring, sustainable forest management 24
assistance, landowner outreach, urban and community forestry 25
support, and forestry education programs that benefit all 26
Mississippians; and 27
WHEREAS, the success of the Mississippi Forestry Commission 28
is the result of the dedication, professionalism and sacrifice of 29
its employees, both past and present, along with strong 30
partnerships with landowners, local government, state and federal 31
agencies, educational institutions and industry partners; and 32
WHEREAS, the 100th Anniversary of the Mississippi Forestry 33
Commission is a significant milestone that offers an opportunity 34
to honor its historic legacy, recognize its current mission, and 35
reaffirm the importance of forestry to Mississippi's economy, 36
public safety, and natural resources; and 37
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize and commend 38
the vital work of the Mississippi Forestry Commission, whose 39
century of faithful service and continued commitment to protecting 40
and managing Mississippi's forests brings honor to the great 41
Magnolia State: 42

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 43
MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the 44
Mississippi Forestry Commission upon the occasion of its 100th 45
Anniversary and commemorate its century of dedicated service to 46
the State of Mississippi and its citizens. 47
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to 48
the Mississippi Forestry Commission and made available to the 49
Capitol Press Corps. 50
