SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 78
A RESOLUTION CONDEMNING THE ASSASSINATION OF CHARLES 1
"CHARLIE" JAMES KIRK AND ALL FORMS OF POLITICAL VIOLENCE AND 2
HONORING HIS LEGACY. 3
WHEREAS, Charles "Charlie" James Kirk, born October 14, 1993, 4
was a courageous American patriot, whose life was tragically and 5
unjustly cut short in an act of political violence on September 6
10, 2025, at Utah Valley University; and 7
WHEREAS, Charlie Kirk was a devoted Christian, who boldly 8
lived out his faith with conviction, courage, and compassion; and 9
WHEREAS, Charlie Kirk was a dedicated husband to his beloved 10
wife, Erika Kirk, and a loving father to their daughter and son, 11
exemplifying the virtues of faith, fidelity, and fatherhood; and 12
WHEREAS, Charlie Kirk was a fierce defender of the American 13
founding and its timeless principles of life, liberty, limited 14
government, and individual responsibility; and 15
WHEREAS, Charlie Kirk, at 18 years old, founded Turning Point 16
USA in 2012, a student movement with the mission to "identify, 17

educate, train, and organize students to promote the principles of 18
fiscal responsibility, free markets, and limited government"; and 19
WHEREAS, Charlie Kirk became one of the most prominent voices 20
in America, engaging in respectful, civil discourse across college 21
campuses, media platforms, and national forums, always seeking to 22
elevate truth, foster understanding, and strengthen the Republic; 23
and 24
WHEREAS, Charlie Kirk personified the values of the First 25
Amendment, exercising his God-given right to speak freely, 26
challenge prevailing narratives, and did so with honor, courage, 27
and respect for his fellow Americans; and 28
WHEREAS, Charlie Kirk's commitment to civil discussion and 29
debate stood as a model for young Americans across the political 30
spectrum, and he worked tirelessly to promote unity without 31
compromising on conviction; and 32
WHEREAS, the assassination of Charlie Kirk was not only a 33
heinous act of violence, but a sobering reminder of the growing 34
threat posed by political extremism and hatred in our society; and 35
WHEREAS, such acts of politically motivated violence are 36
antithetical to the principles of a free republic, in which 37
differences of opinion are to be debated, not silenced, with 38
civility, reason, and mutual respect; and 39
WHEREAS, the rise in targeted violence against individuals 40
for their political beliefs undermines the very fabric of our 41

constitutional democracy and chills the free exchange of ideas 42
essential to a healthy civic society; and 43
WHEREAS, leaders at every level, government, education, 44
media, and beyond, must stand united in unequivocal condemnation 45
of political violence, regardless of their ideology; and 46
WHEREAS, the tragic loss of Charlie Kirk must not be allowed 47
to deepen the divides in our nation, but instead serve as a 48
turning point to recommit ourselves and to the timeless American 49
principles of liberty governed by truth and the virtues of 50
peaceful dialogue; and 51
WHEREAS, Charlie Kirk would not have us respond to his death 52
with despair, but rather with renewed purpose, to speak truth with 53
courage, to stand firm in faith, to seek unity while standing firm 54
in principle, and to serve as living reminders of the values he 55
championed: faith, family, and freedom: 56
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 57
MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby: 58
• Condemn the assassination of Charles "Charlie" James Kirk, 59
and all forms of political violence; 60
• Commend the dedicated law enforcement and emergency 61
personnel for their tireless efforts in finding the suspect 62
responsible for the assassination of Charlie Kirk; 63
• Extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to Charlie 64
Kirk's family, including his wife, Erika, and their two young 65

children, and pray for comfort, peace, and healing in this time of 66
unspeakable loss; 67
• Honor the life, leadership, and legacy of Charlie Kirk, 68
whose steadfast dedication to the Constitution, civil discourse, 69
and Biblical truth inspired a generation to cherish and defend the 70
blessings of liberty; and 71
• Call upon all Americans, regardless of race, party 72
affiliation, or creed, to reject political violence, recommit to 73
respectful debate, uphold American values, and respect one another 74
as fellow Americans. 75
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be transmitted 76
to the surviving family of Charlie Kirk, to members of the 77
Mississippi Congressional Delegation and to the Commissioner of 78
Public Safety, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps. 79
