SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 82
A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF MRS. ZELL LONG 1
UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AS CEO OF THE BOYS AND GIRLS 2
CLUBS OF NORTH MISSISSIPPI. 3
WHEREAS, after 16 outstanding years, Mrs. Zell Long is 4
preparing to retire as CEO of the Boys and Girls Clubs of North 5
Mississippi (BGCNMS); and 6
WHEREAS, Mrs. Long was hired as the executive to lead the 7
organization to its next level in 2010, after she retired from the 8
City of Tupelo, where she served for 34 years in numerous 9
positions, including the Director of Community Development; and 10
WHEREAS, Mrs. Long was part of the committee led by the 11
CREATE Foundation, which was instrumental in establishing clubs in 12
North Mississippi in 1996, and she went on to serve as both a 13
member and president of its Corporate Board of Directors; and 14
WHEREAS, under Mrs. Long's leadership, BGCNMS has expanded 15
its ability to reach young people through partnerships, 16
transportation expansion and facility improvements, including the 17
2024 opening of a permanent location for the Ripley Unit. Her 18

leadership and relationships have led to the Board of Directors 19
receiving the Mississippi High Performing Board Team Award for 20
multiple years; and 21
WHEREAS, Mrs. Long has had active roles within both the 22
Mississippi Area Council and the Mississippi Alliance, which 23
advocate for clubs on the state and federal levels, and she has 24
been recognized by Boys and Girls Clubs of America and The 25
Mississippi Area Council with many honors, including the 26
Distinguished Service Award in 2016, the Professional of the Year 27
Award in 2014, induction into the Mississippi Boys and Girls Club 28
Hall of Fame in 2024, and, most recently, the David W. Roark 29
"Light The Path" Award in 2025; and 30
WHEREAS, Mrs. Long's dedication, expertise and commitment to 31
excellence have made a lasting impact on her community and the 32
State of Mississippi: 33
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 34
MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize the contributions of Mrs. 35
Zell Long upon the occasion of her retirement as CEO of the Boys 36
and Girls Clubs of North Mississippi, express deepest gratitude 37
for her years of distinguished service, and extend to her warmest 38
wishes for continued success. 39
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to 40
Mrs. Zell Long and made available to the Capitol Press Corps. 41
