SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 87
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE 2025-2026 1
PICAYUNE MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL MAROON TIDE VARSITY CHEER TEAM AND 2
COACH JESSICA SMITH FOR THEIR HISTORIC DOUBLE TITLE NATIONAL AND 3
STATE ACHIEVEMENTS. 4
WHEREAS, we join the students, faculty, parents and alumni of 5
Picayune Memorial High School in recognizing the historic Double 6
Title achievement by the 2025-2026 Maroon Tide Varsity Cheer Team; 7
and 8
WHEREAS, the 2025-2026 Picayune Memorial High School (PMHS) 9
Varsity Cheerleading squad, coached by Jessica Smith and Caroline 10
Nichelson, achieved major success as 2025 MHSAA State Champions 11
and 2026 UCA Small Varsity Non-Tumbling D2 National Champions. 12
The 18-member team, which competed in Orlando, Florida, includes 13
Lauren Ball, Kaidyn Collins, Zarriah Daniels, Shemori Felton, 14
Calya Harris, Rikyia Henderson, Anaviia Hille, Zoey Hodges, Kaylin 15
Hunter, Lyric Jackson, Abigail Kimbrough, Ca'miya Mays, Kennedi 16
McCormick, Skylar Rice, London Simpson, Laila Smith, Gabrielle 17
Stevenson, and Amelia Trieu; and 18

WHEREAS, the Cheer Team won: National Title: 2026 UCA 19
(Universal Cheerleaders Association) National Champions. Secured 20
February 8, 2026; Division: Small Varsity D2 Non-Tumbling Game 21
Day; Field: Earned 1st place in a competitive field of over 80 22
programs from across the United States, and State Title: 2025 23
MHSAA State Champions; and 24
WHEREAS, the team secured the 1st place finish in the Varsity 25
Game Day 6A Division at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson on 26
December 13, 2025. Their routine was highlighted by a Band Chant, 27
a Crowd-Leading section, and the PMHS Fight Song, specifically 28
designed to showcase authentic game-day spirit; and 29
WHEREAS, this marks the first time in Picayune Memorial High 30
School history that the varsity cheerleading program has secured 31
both the State and National titles in the same competitive season; 32
and 33
WHEREAS, the squad competed at the highest national level, 34
bringing home the gold medal and national prestige to the State of 35
Mississippi; and 36
WHEREAS, in addition to their athletic commitment, the team 37
members are recognized as dedicated student-athletes. Each member 38
maintains full academic eligibility under the rigorous standards 39
set by the Picayune School District and the MHSAA, balancing a 40
year-round practice schedule with her classroom responsibilities. 41
The program emphasizes discipline, character, and leadership both 42
on or off the mat; and 43

ST: Congratulate Picayune Memorial High School
Maroon Tide Varsity Cheer Team for historic
double national and state title.
WHEREAS, the City of Picayune, along with Picayune Memorial 44
High School hosted a formal community celebration for these 45
champions on March 12, 2026, at Crosby Commons in Picayune: 46
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 47
MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the 48
2025-2026 Picayune Memorial High School Maroon Tide Varsity Cheer 49
Team and Coach Jessica Smith for their historic Double Title 50
National and State achievements, and extend to the team, coaches, 51
parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success. 52
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to 53
Coach Jesssica Smith, and Principal Kristi Mitchell for the team, 54
forwarded to the Picayune School District Board of Trustees and 55
made available to the Capitol Press Corps. 56
