AN ACT
T o amend chapter 21, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to legislative
security of ficers, with an emer gency clause.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:
Section A. Chapter 21, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be
2 known as section 21.158, to read as follows:
21.158. The general assembly , the house, or the senate may employ legislative
2 security officers of the house or senate who may carry fir earms when necessary for the
3 pr oper discharge of their duties. Such legislative security officers, who shall be licensed
4 peace officers under the peace officer standards and training prog ram (POST), shall
5 have all powers granted to law enforcem ent officers in this state that ar e necessary to
6 ensur e the pr oper security and functioning of the general assembly , including the power
7 to appr ehend and arr est persons.
Section B. Because immediate action is necessary to ensure safety within the capitol
2 building during the current legislative session and thereafter , section A of this act is deemed
3 necessary for the immediate preservation of the public health, welfare, peace, and safety , and
4 is hereby declared to be an emer gency act within the meaning of the constitution, and section
5 A of this act shall be in full force and ef fect upon its passage and approval.
