AN ACT
T o amend chapter 571, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to a reporting
requirement for lost or stolen firearms, with penalty provisions.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:
Section A. Chapter 571, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be
2 known as section 571.065, to read as follows:
571.065. 1. An owner of a fir earm shall r eport the loss or theft of the fir earm
2 within seventy-two hours of discovering the loss or theft to the local law enforce ment
3 agency in the city , town, or village or to the sheriff's office in the county in which the loss
4 or theft occurr ed. The local law enfor cement agency or sheriff's office shall enter the
5 make, model, and serial number of the fir earm into the Missouri uniform law
6 enfor cement system (MULES).
7 2. Any person who fails to report the loss or theft of a fir earm as re quir ed under
8 this section shall, upon a plea or finding of guilt ther eof, be guilty of:
9 (1) An infraction punishable by a fine not to exceed one hundre d dollars for a
10 first violation;
11 (2) An infraction punishable by a fine not to exceed four hundred dollars for a
12 second violation; or
13 (3) A misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed five hundr ed dollars for a
14 third or subsequent violation.
