AN ACT
T o amend chapter 301, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to special license
plates for surviving spouses of disabled veterans.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:
Section A. Chapter 301, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be
2 known as section 301.4102, to read as follows:
301.4102. 1. Any person who is a surviving spouse of person who qualified for
2 disabled veteran license plates under this chapter may apply for "Surviving Spouse"
3 motor vehicle license plates for any motor vehicle such person owns, either solely or
4 jointly , other than an apportioned motor vehicle or a commer cial motor vehicle licensed
5 in excess of twenty-four thousand pounds gross weight.
6 2. Any such person shall make application for the surviving spouse license plates
7 on a form pro vided by the dir ector of r evenue and shall furnish such pr oof of status as a
8 surviving spouse as the dir ector may req uire. The dir ector shall then issue license plates
9 bearing letters or numbers or a combination ther eof as determined by the dire ctor with
10 the words "SUR VIVING SPOUSE" in place of the words "SHOW -ME ST A TE". The
11 words "OF DISABLED VETERAN" shall appear on the bottom of such license plates.
12 Such license plates shall be made with fully r eflective material with a common color
13 scheme and design, shall be clearly visible at night, and shall be aesthetically attractive,
14 as prescrib ed by section 301.130.
15 3. There shall be a fifteen dollar fee in addition to the regul ar registr ation fees
16 charged for each set of surviving spouse license plates issued pursuant to this section. A
17 fee for the issuance of personalized license plates pursuant to section 301.144 shall not

18 be r equir ed for plates issued under this section. Ther e shall be no limit on the number
19 of license plates any person qualified pursuant to this section may obtain so long as each
20 set of license plates issued pursuant to this section is issued for vehicles owned solely or
21 jointly by such person. License plates issued pursuant to the pro visions of this section
22 shall not be transferable to any other person except that any regi stered co-owner of the
23 motor vehicle shall be entitled to operate the motor vehicle with such plates for the
24 duration of the year licensed in the event of the death of the qualified person.
