WHEREAS, the General Assembly believes military members and veterans who
2 serve or have served in hostile environments should be recognized; and
3
4 WHEREAS, the United States military maintained a presence in Honduras
5 throughout the 1980s and 1990s, providing training and conducting military exercises with
6 the host nation; and
7
8 WHEREAS, the presence of the United States troops served as a deterrent to
9 aggression in the region and as a means of support for democratic values through civil action
10 in Honduran communities; and
11
12 WHEREAS, United States troops were equipped with live ammunition and assisted
13 the Honduran military in training and combat support; and
14
15 WHEREAS, United States troops experienced hostile fire and imminent danger; and
16
17 WHEREAS, at least one United States service member received a Purple Heart
18 because of terrorist activity; and
19
20 WHEREAS, United States troops lost their lives while in Honduras due to terrorist
21 activity and hazardous circumstances:

23 NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOL VED that the members of the House of
24 Representatives of the One Hundred Third General Assembly , Second Regular Session, the
25 Senate concurring therein, hereby ur ge Congress to issue an Armed Forces Expeditionary
26 Medal, or similar recognition of having served in an area of hostility , to all United States
27 troops who served in Honduras from 1981 to 1992; and

29 BE IT FUR THER RESOL VED that the Chief Clerk of the Missouri House of
30 Representatives be instructed to prepare a properly inscribed copy of this resolution for the
31 Majority and Minority Leaders of the United States Senate, the Speaker and Minority Leader
32 of the United States House of Representatives, and each member of the Missouri
33 congressional delegation.
