AN ACT
Relating to Redd Foxx day .
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:
WHEREAS, Redd Foxx was one of the most influential comedians in American
2 history and a true St. Louis original; and

4 WHEREAS, rising from poverty and segregation, Foxx built a groundbreaking career
5 by telling the truth without apology . Known as "the King of the Party Records", Foxx
6 released dozens of best-selling comedy albums that shaped modern stand-up and influenced
7 generations of performers; and

9 WHEREAS, his fearless humor tackled race, class, aging, and everyday struggles
10 with sharp wit and unmatched timing; and
11
12 WHEREAS, Foxx became a household name as Fred Sanford on Sanford and Son,
13 where his legendary catchphrase "I’m coming to join you, Elizabeth!" entered popular
14 culture; and

16 WHEREAS, he broke barriers for Black performers in primetime television while
17 insisting on authenticity and dignity; and

19 WHEREAS, beyond the spotlight, Foxx quietly mentored young comedians and
20 helped others find their footing:

22 NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOL VED that the members of the House of
23 Representatives of the One Hundred Third General Assembly , Second Regular Session, the
24 Senate concurring therein, hereby designate December ninth each year as "Redd Foxx Day"
25 in Missouri, in recognition of the bold, honest, and unforg ettable man who changed comedy
26 forever; and

28 BE IT FUR THER RESOL VED that this resolution be sent to the Governor for his
29 approval or rejection pursuant to the Missouri Constitution.
