WHEREAS, to secure the blessings of liberty for themselves and future generations,
2 the founding fathers of the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence on
3 July 4, 1776, proclaiming the thirteen American colonies were free and independent from the
4 king of England’ s rule; and
5
6 WHEREAS, to commemorate this joyous event, the America 250 Missouri
7 Commission, and its forty-nine counterparts from other states, will join to celebrate the
8 two hundred fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the United States of America on July 4,
9 2026, with patriotic celebrations in cities and small towns across the beautiful Show-Me State
10 and around the country; and

12 WHEREAS, comprised of a group from the private and public sectors, trade
13 associations, fraternal org anizations, and veterans agencies, the America 250 Missouri
14 Commission has planned, promoted, and implemented a plethora of public celebrations to
15 educate, engage, and celebrate this monumental milestone; and
16
17 WHEREAS, throughout 2026, the twenty-first state to enter the Union, in tandem
18 with the America 250 Missouri Commission, will host statewide events, community projects,
19 educational initiatives, and patriotic traditions to mark the United States of America
20 Semiquincentennial; and
21
22 WHEREAS, formed as a democratic republic with three co-equal branches of
23 government and a Constitution that limits government and protects the individual rights of
24 W e the People, the unique American experiment has been steered by a diverse population of
25 descendants from every continent who were drawn to the promise of freedom and justice for
26 all; and
27
28 WHEREAS, the price of freedom has been af forded by the sacrifices and selfless
29 service of countless brave military men and women, who battled and perished in domestic
30 conflicts and foreign wars with their unwavering belief in the American way of life and will
31 to uphold her creed of equality; and

33 WHEREAS, the United States’ primordial topography , complete with majestic
34 mountain ranges, fertile plains, rolling hills, sprawling forests, and abundant lakes and rivers,
35 has been home to generations of patriotic citizens who have made their livelihoods from the
36 land and hope to preserve its natural beauty for future Americans to enjoy; and
37
38 WHEREAS, for two hundred fifty years, iconic American symbols, poetry , and songs
39 about independence have united and instilled an unmatched sense of pride in all who live
40 between her shores; and
41
42 WHEREAS, centuries of struggles and triumphs have inspired artists to create world-
43 renowned musical genres, distinctive paintings and architecture, and expressive literature and
44 fine arts, which orchestrate the notes and melodies of the United States’ diversity , history , and
45 untold stories; and

47 WHEREAS, the ideals and collective culture of the United States of America will
48 continue to inspire and lead the free world as the nation works toward a more perfect union in
49 the future:

51 NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOL VED that the members of the House of
52 Representatives of the One Hundred Third General Assembly , Second Regular Session, the
53 Senate concurring therein, hereby encourage all Missouri citizens to engage in appropriate
54 patriotic programs and events in observance of Show-Me America 250 on July 4, 2026, and
55 throughout the year; and

57 BE IT FUR THER RESOL VED that the Secretary of the Missouri Senate and the
58 Chief Clerk of the Missouri House of Representatives be instructed to prepare properly
59 inscribed copies of this resolution for presentation.
