SB 1251 - Currently, counties that have adopted an alternative form of county highway commission may only abolish it by a vote of the people. This act specifies that it may also be abolished by a vote of the county's governing body. If the alternative form of county highway commission is abolished, the act provides that the county shall adopt either the standard form of county highway commission, or a system of road districts and overseers as provided by law.

AN ACT
To repeal section 230.205, RSMo, and to enact in lieu thereof one new section relating to
alternative county highway commissions.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Missouri, as follows:
Section A. Section 230.205, RSMo, is repealed and one new 1
section enacted in lieu thereof, to be known as section 230.205, 2
to read as follows:3
230.205. 1. The alternative county highway commission 1
provided by sections 230.200 to 230.260 shall not become 2
operative in any county unless adopted by a vote of the 3
majority of the voters of the county voting upon the 4
question at an election. All counties of this state which 5
have adopted the alternative county highway commission may 6
abolish it [and return to the county highway commission 7
provided for by sections 230.010 to 230.110] by submitting 8
the question to a vote of the voters of the county in the 9
manner provided by law or by a vote of the governing body. 10
2. Any county which does not adopt the alternative 11
county highway commission provided by sections 230.200 to 12
230.260, or any county in which [a majority of the voters of 13
the county voting upon the question reject] the alternative 14
county highway commission provided by sections 230.200 to 15
230.260 is abolished, shall [retain] adopt either the county 16

or the provisions of sections 231.010 to 231.130. 18
