SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 17
Relating to the official professional football team of
the state of Missouri.

Whereas, the Missouri General Assembly and Governor
Parson, acting with the best of intentions with the
knowledge possessed at the time, designated the Kansas City
Chiefs as the official NFL football team of the state of
Missouri; and
Whereas, Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 4, as
amended, was passed by the One-hundredth General Assembly of
the State of Missouri in 2019, and signed by Governor Parson
on July 9, 2019; and
Whereas, based on recent events, it has become clear
that the will of the people of the state of Missouri has
changed with regard to the designation of the Kansas City
Chiefs as the official NFL football team of this state; and
Whereas, the Kansas City Chiefs football organization
has indicated that, despite years of fan support and
financial support from the citizens of this state, the team
wants to relocate the team to the state of Kansas; and
Whereas, the state of Missouri created business
friendly conditions to demonstrate its desire for the Chiefs
to stay in the state of Missouri, while the state of Kansas
enticed the Chiefs with an extravagant set of financial
incentives that will cost the taxpayers of the state of
Kansas dearly over the coming years; and
Whereas, it is nonsensical to designate a team that
will no longer reside in this state as the official NFL
football team of this state; and
Whereas, the St. Louis Battlehawks are a professional
football team in the United Football League; and

2
Whereas, the Battlehawks have been a beacon of
professionalism and a source of pride for the state of
Missouri; and
Whereas, it is proper for the state of Missouri
recognize the achievements of the Battlehawks, including
their passionate fans who understand that Kaw is Law as they
cry out "Ka-Kaw" to support their team:
Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved by the members of the
Missouri Senate, One Hundred Third General Assembly, Second
Regular Session, the House of Representatives concurring
therein, that the Missouri General Assembly hereby repeals,
rescinds, cancels, and renders null and void in all respects
the designation of the Kansas City Chiefs as the official
NFL football team of the state of Missouri; and
Be It Further Resolved that the General Assembly hereby
designates the St. Louis Battlehawks as the official
professional football team of the state of Missouri; and
Be It Further Resolved that the Secretary of the
Missouri Senate be instructed to send a properly inscribed
copy of this resolution to the Governor for his approval or
rejection pursuant to the Missouri Constitution.
