4 A BILL FOR AN ACT ENTITLED: “AN ACT REVISING LAWS ON SURPLUS REVENUES; PROVIDING
5 SURPLUS FUNDING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE FOR RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION AT THE
6 MONTANA STATE CRIME LAB; PROVIDING A ONE-TIME-ONLY APPROPRIATION; AND PROVIDING AN
7 EFFECTIVE DATE.”

9 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:

11 NEW SECTION. Section 1. Appropriation. (1) There is appropriated $120,000 from the general fund
12 to the department of justice in the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2025, and in the fiscal year beginning July 1,
13 2026, to address recruitment and retention matters at the Montana state crime lab.
14 (2) Funds not expended must revert to the general fund.
15 (3) This appropriation is one-time-only.

17 NEW SECTION. Section 2. Effective date. [This act] is effective July 1, 2025.
