ENROLLED BILL
A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE SENATE AND THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF
MONTANA RECOGNIZING THE 250TH BIRTHDAY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
WHEREAS, the Montana Legislature wishes to acknowledge milestones in the history of the United
States of America; and
WHEREAS, colonists in the British colonies in North America were frustrated by the overreach of the
power of the British King and Parliament; and
WHEREAS, the colonists considered themselves more American and believed they were under forced
British rule; and
WHEREAS, the colonial leaders wrote a Declaration of Independence, issued on July 4, 1776, breaking
away from British rule; and
WHEREAS, the Declaration of Independence enunciates grievances against British rule; and
WHEREAS, the Preamble of the Declaration of Independence states that "all men are created equal,
that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights"; and
WHEREAS, the Declaration of Independence declares further that all men have the right to "Life,
Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness"; and
WHEREAS, France and Spain joined in wartime alliance with the American colonies under the
command of George Washington, who would become the first President of the United States; and
WHEREAS, sixteen United States Presidents can trace their ancestry to those who fought or provided
assistance in the War for American Independence; and
WHEREAS, in the year 2026, the United States of America will commemorate its 250th Anniversary in
celebrating our "Declaration of Independence"; and
WHEREAS, the Montana Legislature desires to promote this unique, patriotic anniversary and urge all

ENROLLED BILL
Montanans to celebrate and learn about the Declaration of Independence and America's founding; and
WHEREAS, the Sons of the American Revolution was founded on April 30, 1889, 100 years after the
inauguration of George Washington; and
WHEREAS, the Daughters of the American Revolution was founded on October 11, 1890; and
WHEREAS, both the Sons of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the American Revolution
share a mission to promote American history and the appreciation of our founding documents.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE AND THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
THE STATE OF MONTANA:
That we, the members of the 2025 Montana Legislature, applaud the goals and educational outreach of
both the Sons of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the American Revolution and partners
previously mentioned, and convey to these organizations our heartfelt best wishes as we celebrate the 250th
Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 2026.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Secretary of State send a copy of this resolution to the
President of the United States and to each member of the Montana Congressional Delegation.
