ENROLLED BILL
AN ACT ESTABLISHING THE STAFF SERGEANT ARTHUR J RAMBO MEMORIAL BRIDGE; AND
DIRECTING THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO INSTALL SIGNS.”
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Arthur J Rambo was born December 16, 1944, to Viola and Howard Rambo
of Libby, Montana; and
WHEREAS, Arthur grew up on a farm outside Libby. He had a vibrant family life with his sisters,
Kathleen and Patty, and brother, Dan, and he was active in the community through baseball, school choir,
talent shows, and plays; and
WHEREAS, Arthur studied math at Carroll College and sang in the Carroll College Carrolleers, where
he met his wife, Helen Ryan. They graduated in 1966 and married in Dillon, Montana, in 1967. Arthur then
earned a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Notre Dame. The couple had a daughter, Kerry
Lynn, in 1968; and
WHEREAS, Arthur was drafted and did not seek an exemption that he was eligible for, and he moved
his new family to Libby, where his wife became a teacher; and
WHEREAS, after 11 months in the Army, Arthur was promoted to Staff Sergeant; and
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Arthur J Rambo arrived in Vietnam in August 1969. On November 26,
1969, his unit came under attack, and Staff Sergeant Arthur J Rambo worked heroically under fire to save his
crew members and their military assets. He sustained fatal injuries and was awarded the Silver Star; and
WHEREAS, Arthur was survived by his wife, Helen, his daughter, Kerry Lynn, his newborn daughter,
Amy Denise, and his extended family; and
WHEREAS, the Libby community asks that we honor the sacrifice and admirable life of Staff Sergeant
Arthur J Rambo.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:

ENROLLED BILL
Section 1. Staff Sergeant Arthur J Rambo memorial bridge. (1) The bridge spanning the Kootenai
River in Libby, Montana, on highway 37 is dedicated to Staff Sergeant Arthur J Rambo.
(2) The department shall design and install appropriate signs on each end of the bridge marking
the Staff Sergeant Arthur J Rambo memorial.
(3) The department shall design and install a memorial plaque at a location near the bridge.
Section 2. Codification instruction. [Section 1] is intended to be codified as an integral part of Title
60, chapter 1, part 2, and the provisions of Title 60, chapter 1, part 2, apply to [section 1].
