AN ACT relating to courts; requesting that the Nevada Supreme
Court study procedures for notifying defendants and
persons who are issued a civil infraction citation of
certain information; requesting that the Nevada Supreme
Court adopt court or administrative rules governing such
procedures; and providing other matters properly relating
thereto.
Legislative Counsel’s Digest:
Existing law: (1) requires a peace officer to collect a telephone number and an 1
indication of whether a person who is issued a civil infraction citation agrees to 2
receive communications by text message; and (2) authorizes a court to send certain 3
communications relating to civil infraction citations by text message. (NRS 4
484A.7035, 484A.704) This bill requests that the Nevada Supreme Court: (1) study 5
procedures for notifying defendants and persons who are issued a civil infraction 6
citation of certain information; (2) consider, without limitation, best practices, input 7
from interested stakeholders and the technological needs of the court s when 8
studying such procedures; and ( 3) adopt court or administrative rules governing 9
such procedures. 10
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN
SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

Sec. 8. The Legislature hereby respectfully requests that the 6
Nevada Supreme Court: 7
1. Study procedures for notifying defendants and persons who 8
are issued a civil infraction citation of certain information, 9
including, without limitation, court dates, required court 10
appearances, missed court appearances and any required or missed 11
payments to the court; 12
2. In studying such procedures pursuant to subsection 1, 13
consider, without limitation, the best practices for notifying 14
defendants and persons who are issued a civil infraction citation, 15
input from interested community and justice system stakeholders 16
and the technological needs of the court system; and 17
3. Adopt court or administrative rules governing such 18
procedures. 19
