AN ACT making an appropriation to the University of Nevada,
Reno, for a technology initiative for certain students; and
providing other matters properly relating thereto.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN
SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1. 1. There is hereby appropriated from the State 1
General Fund to the University of Nevada, Reno, the sum of 2
$2,400,000 to carry out an initiative for the purchase, distribution 3
and maintenance of tablet computers for the use of each student who 4
is: 5
(a) Enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno, during the 2025-6
2027 biennium; and 7
(b) Is eligible to receive a federal Pell Grant pursuant to 20 8
U.S.C. § 1070a, based on the eligibility requirements and awarding 9
rules in effect on December 31, 2024, as increased or decreased for 10
Fiscal Year 2025 -2026 and Fiscal Year 2026 -2027, respectively, in 11
an amount corresponding to the p ercentage of increase or decrease 12
in the Consumer Price Index (All Items) published by the United 13
States Department of Labor for the preceding fiscal year. 14
2. Upon acceptance of the money appropriated by subsection 1, 15
the University of Nevada, Reno, agrees to: 16
(a) On or before February 1, 2027, p repare and transmit a report 17
to the Director of the Legislative Counsel Bureau for transmission to 18

the Senate Standing Committee on Finance and the Assembly 1
Standing Committee on Ways and Means of the 84th Session of the 2
Nevada Legislature. The report must include, without limitation, as 3
of December 31, 2026: 4
(1) The number of students who participated in the initiative 5
set forth in subsection 1; 6
(2) An evaluation of t he effectiveness of the in itiative in 7
improving the academic performance of the students who 8
participated in the initiative; 9
(3) A summary of the statistics relating to usage of the 10
technology provided pursuant to the initiative; and 11
(4) An itemization of the use of the money appropriated by 12
subsection 1. 13
(b) Prepare and transmit a report to the Interim Finance 14
Committee on or before September 17, 2027, that describes each 15
expenditure made from the money appropriated by subsection 1 16
from the date on which the money was received by the University of 17
Nevada, Reno, through June 30, 2027. 18
3. Any remaining balance of the ap propriation made by 19
subsection 1 must not be committed for expenditure after June 30, 20
2027, by the entity to which the appropriation is made or any entity 21
to which money fr om the appropriation is granted or otherwise 22
transferred in any manner, and any portion of the appropriated 23
money remaining must not be spent for any purpose after 24
September 17, 2027, by either the entity to which the money was 25
appropriated or the entity t o which the money was subsequently 26
granted or transferred, and must be reverted to the State General 27
Fund on or before September 17, 2027. 28
Sec. 2. This act becomes effective upon passage and approval. 29
