AN ACT making an appropriation to the United Way of Northern
Nevada and the Sierra for the United Readers Program;
and providing other matters properly relating thereto.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN
SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1. 1. There is hereby appropriated from the State 1
General Fund to the United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra 2
the sum of $1,400,000 for the United Readers Program. 3
2. Upon acceptance of the money appropriated by subsection 1, 4
the United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra agrees to: 5
(a) Prepare and transmit a report to the Interim Finance 6
Committee on or before December 18, 2026, that describes each 7
expenditure made from the money appropriated by subsection 1 8
from the date on which the money was received by the United Way 9
of Northern Nevada and the Sierra through December 1, 2026; 10
(b) Prepare and transmit a final report to the Interim Finance 11
Committee on or before September 17, 2027, that describes each 12
expenditure made from the money appropriated by subsection 1 13
from the date on which t he money was received by the United Way 14
of Northern Nevada and the Sierra through June 30, 2027; and 15
(c) Upon request of the Legislative Commission, make available 16
to the Legislative Auditor any of the books, accounts, claims, 17
reports, vouchers or other r ecords of information, confidential or 18

otherwise, of the United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra , 1
regardless of their form or location, that the Legislative Auditor 2
deems necessary to conduct an audit of the use of the money 3
appropriated by subsection 1. 4
3. Any remaining balance of the appropriation made by 5
subsection 1 must not be committed for expenditure after June 30, 6
2027, by the entity to which the appropriation is made or any entity 7
to which money from the appropriation is granted or otherwise 8
transferred in any manner, and any portion of the appropriated 9
money remaining must not be spent for any purpose after 10
September 17, 2027, by either the entity to which the money was 11
appropriated or the entity to which the money was subsequently 12
granted or transferred, and must be reverted to the State General 13
Fund on or before September 17, 2027. 14
Sec. 2. This act becomes effective upon passage and approval. 15
