STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Twenty-Six

AN ACT
adding cyanobacteria and algae blooms to the study of the exotic aquatic weeds and species committee.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

89:1 Exotic Aquatic Weeds and Species Committee; Cyanobacteria Included. Amend RSA 487:30, III to read as follows:
III. The committee shall:
(a) Study the spread of exotic aquatic weeds and exotic aquatic species of wildlife, as defined in RSA 487:16, I-a, in the waters of New Hampshire including education, management, and potential means to eliminate the spread of these weeds and wildlife.
(b)
Study and discuss potential factors contributing to the proliferation of harmful algal blooms and cyanobacteria in the state's surface waters, including the potential relationship between aquatic invasive species and nutrient dynamics that may contribute to harmful algal bloom formation.
(c)
Aid the department of environmental services in the control and eradication of milfoil
, harmful algal blooms, and cyanobacteria

Study the best management practices used in other states to prevent the introduction of, and to research, monitor, control, and eradicate exotic aquatic weeds and wildlife.

Recommend to the department of fish and game a program for research, monitoring, control, or eradication if an invasive exotic aquatic species of wildlife is discovered in the state.

89:2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
