An Act
concerning firefighters and supplementing Title 40A of
the New Jersey Statutes.

Be It
Enacted
by the Senate and General Assembly of
the State of New Jersey:
����� 1.�� A
fire department or force, whether part-paid or volunteer, shall not prohibit a volunteer
firefighter who has five or more years of experience in fire suppression,
firefighting, or fire rescue from engaging in fire suppression, firefighting,
or fire rescue solely on the grounds that the volunteer firefighter is
uncertified or does not meet a requirement that is not imposed pursuant to
statute, rule, or regulation.
���� 2.��� This act shall take
effect immediately.
STATEMENT
���� Under the bill, part-paid and
volunteer fire departments would not be permitted to prohibit a volunteer firefighter
who has five or more years of experience in fire suppression, firefighting, or
fire rescue from engaging in these activities solely on the basis that the volunteer
firefighter is uncertified or does not meet any requirement that is not imposed
pursuant to statute, rule, or regulation.
