Enacted
by the Senate and General Assembly of
the State of New Jersey:
 1. In the event that the
Board of Public Utilities employs, retains, or engages outside consultants to
prepare a report for the board, the board shall include the total cost of the
report preparation and the name of the entity that prepared the report on either
the cover of the report or the front page of the report.
 2. This act shall take
effect immediately.
STATEMENT
 This bill requires the Board
of Public Utilities (BPU) to include the total cost of a report prepared for
the BPU if the BPU employs, retains, or engages outside consultants to prepare
the report. The total cost of the report preparation and the name of the
entity that prepared the report is to be printed on either the cover or the
front page of the report.
 According to the sponsor,
untold amounts of ratepayer money is spent every year by the BPU on voluminous
reports, many repeating the same information, on the current failed energy
strategy. It is only fitting that the ratepayer should be told the cost of
these reports and who has received the payment.
