An Act
concerning firefighter certification and supplementing
Title 52 of the Revised Statutes.

Be It
Enacted
by the Senate and General Assembly of
the State of New Jersey:

���� 1.��� Notwithstanding the Firefighter
1 recruit training course requirements prescribed by the Division of Fire
Safety in the Department of Community Affairs for Firefighter 1 certification,
a person who meets the eligibility and examination requirements established by
the division for Firefighter 1 certification, but has not completed the
Firefighter 1 recruit training course, shall receive Firefighter 1
certification if the person completed at least 12 months of active duty
military service and satisfactorily completed military firefighter training
during the period of active duty military service.

���� 2.��� This act shall take
effect on the first day of the fourth month next following the date of
enactment.

STATEMENT

���� This bill provides that a
person who completed at least 12 months of active duty military service and has
satisfactorily completed military firefighter training is eligible to receive
Firefighter 1 certification.

���� Under current law, a candidate
for Firefighter 1 certification is required to meet the eligibility, training,
and examination requirements established by the Division of Fire Safety in the
Department of Community Affairs.� Under the bill, a person who has not
completed the training program requirements established by the division, but
meets the other eligibility and examination requirements required for
certification, is to receive a Firefighter 1 certificate if the person has
completed at least 12 months of active duty military service and has
satisfactorily completed military firefighter training during the period of
active duty military service.
