ASSEMBLY TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND UTILITIES COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

ASSEMBLY,
No. 4528

STATE
OF NEW JERSEY

DATED:
MARCH
13, 2026

 The Assembly Telecommunications and Utilities
Committee reports favorably Assembly Bill No. 4528.

As reported, this bill modifies the permit review
process under the Coastal Area Facility Review Act to clarify that the
Commissioner of the Department of Environmental Protection may approve the
construction and operation of a nuclear electric generation facility if the commissioner
finds that the proposed method for the storage or disposal of radioactive waste
material to be produced or generated by the facility, rather than just the
disposal of such waste material, will be safe, conforms to standards established
by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and will effectively remove danger to
life and the environment from such waste material.
