A Joint
Resolution
designating September 11th of each year as "Heroes
Day."
Whereas,
The attack on the United States on September 11, 2001
resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent people, injury to countless
others, and the disruption of innumerable lives; and
Whereas,
Victims of this unconscionable act included civilians,
government workers, military personnel, airline passengers and crew members,
police officers, firefighters, and paramedics; and
Whereas,
The events of September 11,
2001 brought to the forefront the courageous deeds performed by members of the
Armed Forces, police officers, firefighters, and emergency services personnel,
and caused the citizens of the State of New Jersey to take notice of their acts
of heroism; and
Whereas,
Members of the Armed Forces, police officers, firefighters, and emergency
services personnel throughout the State are called upon to serve and protect
their fellow citizens, acting heroically to save the lives of others in spite
of the clear danger to their own lives; and
Whereas,
Members of the Armed Forces, police officers, firefighters, and emergency
services personnel are routinely subjected to dangerous situations, called upon
to work overtime without proper rest, and spend time away from their families
and loves ones; and
Whereas,
Since the terrorist attacks
on this Nation on September 11, 2001, members of the Armed Forces, police
officers, firefighters, and emergency services personnel throughout the State
have been called upon to make even greater sacrifices to ensure the safety and
security of Americans; and
Whereas,
It is fitting and proper
that the State of New Jersey recognize September 11th of each year as "Heroes
Day," to salute the contributions of members of the Armed Forces, police
officers, firefighters, and emergency services personnel to the security and
well-being of this State; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved
by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New
Jersey:
���� 1.��� a.�� September 11th of
each year shall be designated as "Heroes Day" in New Jersey to salute
the contributions of members of the Armed Forces, police officers,
firefighters, and emergency services personnel to the security and well-being
of this State.
���� b.��� The Governor shall
annually issue a proclamation establishing September 11th of each year as
"Heroes Day" and call upon all citizens of the State to celebrate
this day with appropriate activities and programs.
���� 2.��� This joint resolution
shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
