A Joint
Resolution
designating April 22 of each
year as Girl Scout Leader Appreciation Day in New Jersey.

Whereas,
Girl Scouts is a program made up of a network of
dedicated women that has been positively impacting the lives of young girls
since its inception in 1912; and

Whereas,
The Girl Scouts program seeks to empower and
challenge girls while providing them with the skills necessary to become strong
women in the future; and

Whereas,
Girls who participate in the Girl Scouts experience
partake in a collection of engaging, educational, enriching, and fun activities
such as exploring science, creating and participating in community service
projects, selling cookies, and earning achievement badges for developing
specific skill sets; these activities allow for young girls to serve as
volunteers, gain entrepreneurship experience, and develop science, technology,
engineering, and math (STEM) skills along with other practical life skills; and

Whereas,
The success of the Girl Scouts program would not be
possible without the dedication and ceaseless work ethic of its Girl Scout
Leaders; and

Whereas,
Girl Scout Leaders serve as mentors and role models
for girls, in the Girl Scout program, as they approach womanhood; Girl Scout
Leaders teach lessons that further develop girls� self-awareness, confidence,
respect, leadership, social skills, and problem-solving skills; and

Whereas,
Girl Scout Leaders share their time, energy, love,
and expertise with the girls in their Girl Scout troops serving as chaperones
and mother figures to girls on overnight trips and overseeing their
participation in activities; and

Whereas,
As volunteers, Girl Scout Leaders do not seek
special rewards or recognition, however, their large contributions to the Girl
Scouts movement and the growth of young women, should be recognized and
appreciated; and

Whereas,
The month of April is recognized, within the Girl
Scouts program, as volunteer appreciation month, and April 22 specifically
celebrates the volunteer efforts of Girl Scout Leaders; now, therefore,

Resolved
by the Senate and General Assembly of
the State of New Jersey:

���� 1.� April 22 of each year is
designated as �Girl Scout Leader Appreciation Day� in New Jersey.

���� 2.� The Governor is
respectfully requested to annually issue a proclamation calling upon public
officials and residents of the State to observe �Girl Scout Leader Appreciation
Day� with appropriate events and activities.

���� 3.� This joint resolution
shall take effect immediately.

STATEMENT

���� This joint resolution
designates April 22 of each year as �Girl Scout Leader Appreciation Day� in New
Jersey.

���� The Girl Scouts program has
been positively impacting the lives of girls since its inception in 1912.� The
Girl Scouts program seeks to empower and challenge girls.� Girl Scouts involves
activities, volunteer opportunities, and lessons on various academic and
personal subjects that altogether set young girls up for success in the
future.� Girl Scouts helps to create strong, confident women who embody
self-awareness, leadership, courage, and respect.

���� The success of the Girl Scouts
program relies on the hard work and contributions of its volunteer Girl Scout
Leaders.� Girl Scout Leaders
serve as mentors
and role models for girls, in the Girl Scout program, as they approach
womanhood. �Girl Scout Leaders share their time, energy, love, and expertise
with the girls in their Girl Scout troops serving as chaperones and mother
figures to girls on overnight trips and overseeing their participation in
activities� Without the selflessness, dedication, and hard work of Girl Scout
Leaders, the mission of the Girl Scouts program would not be possible.

���� The
month of April is recognized, within the Girl Scouts program, as volunteer
appreciation month and April 22 as �Girl Scout Leader Appreciation Day�.� The
contribution Girl Scout Leaders make to the development of young women should
be celebrated by all of the residents of the state of New Jersey.� For this
reason, April 22 of each year should be designated as �Girl Scout Leader
Appreciation Day� in New Jersey.
