����� The Senate Commerce Committee reports favorably and
with committee amendments Senate Bill No. 3632.

����� As
amended, this bill increases and modifies fees and penalties under Title 51 of
the Revised Statutes pertaining to the weighing, measuring, labeling,
packaging, and inspection of certain commodities and standards for certain
commercial products including, but not limited to, food sold by weight, lumber
and lumber products; gold, silver, and alloys thereof; platinum and alloys
thereof; precious metals; liquid fuel; liquefied gas; and soil enriching and
correcting products.�

����� The
fees and penalties under Title 51 are in place to ensure that devices such as
scales and fuel pumps are accurate and used correctly and consistently.� The
majority of these fees and penalties have not been increased in decades.� The
sponsor intends to update these
licensing fees and penalties to make them commensurate
with today�s economic realities in
order to promote compliance by businesses and better cover the costs of
conducting enforcement activities, such
as inspections, field investigations, and bringing
enforcement actions against violators
.
