An Act
requiring the storage of firearms in an ambulance and
supplementing Title 26 of the Revised Statutes.

Be It
Enacted
by the Senate and General Assembly of
the State of New Jersey:

���� 1.��� a� Each first aid,
rescue, or emergency squad ambulance vehicle shall be equipped with a securely
locked box or container which shall be used to safely store a firearm.� The
firearm shall be stored in the locked box or container when any person in
possession of the firearm is transported in the ambulance vehicle.��

���� b.��� The Commissioner of
Health may promulgate rules and regulations, in accordance with the
�Administrative Procedure Act,� P.L.1968, c.410 (C.52:14B-1 et seq.), as are
necessary to effectuate the provisions of this act.

���� c.���� As used in this
section, �first aid, rescue, or emergency squad� includes a volunteer or
nonvolunteer first aid, rescue, and ambulance squad as defined by section 3 of
P.L.1987, c.284 (C.27:5F-20), or a non-profit first aid, rescue, and ambulance
squad that bills or receives reimbursement for services that it provides.

���� 2.��� This act shall take
effect on the first day of the fourth month next following the date of
enactment.�

STATEMENT

���� This bill requires each first
aid, rescue, or emergency squad ambulance vehicle to be equipped with a
securely locked box or container used to safely store a firearm.� The bill
requires a firearm to be stored in the locked box or container when any person
in possession of the firearm is transported in the ambulance vehicle.

���� Under the bill, �first aid,
rescue, or emergency squad� includes a volunteer or nonvolunteer first aid,
rescue, and ambulance squad as defined by current law, or a non-profit first
aid, rescue, and ambulance squad that bills or receives reimbursement for
services that it provides.
