Resolution
designating May 1st of each year
as �Silver Star Service Banner Day� in New Jersey.

Whereas,

Throughout the history of our nation, individuals have dedicated their lives
and service to the protection of our values and the nation by engaging in
military service; and

Whereas,

Service members and veterans deserve recognition for their sacrifices and the
services they have provided to all citizens; and

Whereas,

The Silver Star Families of America is an organization dedicated to the support
of wounded, ill, injured, and dying service members and veterans; and

Whereas,

The Silver Star Families of America honor service members and veterans through
their advocacy and with the Silver Star Service Banner; and

Whereas,

The Silver Star Service Banner recognizes the physical, emotional, and
financial costs of the wounds and illnesses sustained during combat or as a
result of service by service members and veterans and may be displayed at any
time by the service member, veteran or their family as a symbol of their
sacrifice; and

Whereas,

Formally recognized by the United States Congress in 2010, �Silver Star Service
Banner Day� has been observed annually on May 1st; and

Whereas,

Traditionally, �Silver Star Service Banner Day� has honored service members and
veterans who were wounded or who became ill; and

Whereas,

New Jersey is grateful for the sacrifices members of the military have made in
service to this nation and recognizes the importance of never forgetting their
acts of bravery; and

Whereas,

The establishment of May 1st of each year as �Silver Star Service Banner Day�
will help to honor the sacrifices made by veterans and service members through
their military service to this nation; now, therefore,

Be It
Resolved
by the Senate and General Assembly of
the State of New Jersey:

���� 1.� May 1st of each year is
designated as �Silver Star Service Banner Day� in New Jersey to honor and
remember the sacrifices service members and veterans have made for this nation.

���� 2.� The Governor is
respectfully requested to annually issue a proclamation recognizing May 1st as
�Silver Star Service Banner Day� in New Jersey and calling upon public
officials and citizens of this State to observe �Silver Star Service Banner
Day� with appropriate activities and programs.

���� 3.� This joint resolution
shall take effect immediately.

STATEMENT

���� This joint resolution
designates May 1st of each year as �Silver Star Service Banner Day.��
Throughout the history of the United States, individuals have dedicated their
lives and service to the protection of our values and nation.� Those
individuals deserved to be honored and recognized.

���� The Silver Star Service Banner
is a symbol to honor and remember wounded and ill service members and
veterans.� Formally recognized by the United States Congress in 2010, �Silver
Star Service Banner Day� is observed at the national level on May 1st of each
year to honor wounded and ill service members and veterans.

���� It is fitting and proper for
this State to honor and remember wounded and ill service members and veterans
and the service they provided for our country by designating May 1st of each
year as �Silver Star Service Banner Day� in New Jersey.
