        COMMEMORATING the 50th Anniversary of the National
        Caucus of Black State Legislators

  WHEREAS,  It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend organizations of outstanding purpose whose contributions enhance
the quality of life for the citizens of this great State and the Nation;
and

  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is  justly proud to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the National Black Caucus  of  State
Legislators (NBCSL); and

  WHEREAS,  Founded  in 1977, by approximately 18 visionary lawmakers,
the National Black  Caucus  of  State  Legislators  was  established  to
address the pressing needs of Black constituents and to counter barriers
to full participation within traditional legislative organizations; and

  WHEREAS,  The  National  Black Caucus of State Legislators has grown
into   a   premier   bipartisan,   nonprofit   membership   organization
representing  more  than  700  African  American  state legislators from
across the United States, collectively giving voice to over  50  million
African Americans; and

  WHEREAS, The National Black Caucus of State Legislators is dedicated
to  promoting educational, research, and training initiatives that equip
its members to make informed decisions on legislation and public  policy
affecting Black communities and other underserved populations; and

  WHEREAS,   Through   its   commitment  to  fostering  collaboration,
advancing model legislation, and encouraging the exchange of  ideas  and
information,  the National Black Caucus of State Legislators serves as a
dynamic force for public policy innovation and effective governance; and

  WHEREAS, The organization operates as a strong and unified  advocate
for  African  American state legislators and their constituencies at the
federal level, while also strengthening the effectiveness and  influence
of its members within their respective states; and

  WHEREAS, The State of New York has long been home to a distinguished
and diverse body of legislators who have contributed meaningfully to the
mission  and  work  of  the  National Black Caucus of State Legislators,
advancing policies that promote equity, justice, and opportunity for all
New Yorkers; and

  WHEREAS, The 50th Anniversary of the National Black Caucus of  State
Legislators  marks  a  significant  milestone  in its enduring legacy of
bipartisan leadership, advocacy, and service, as well as  its  continued
commitment  to  improving the lives of African Americans and underserved
communities nationwide; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
commemorate  the  50th Anniversary of the National Black Caucus of State

Legislators, recognizing its invaluable contributions to public  service
and policy advancement; and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the National Black Caucus of State Legislators.
