Senate Resolution No. 2071

        HONORING the life and legacy of Marilyn D. Mosley,
        distinguished citizen, respected leader, and devoted
        member of her community

  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens  of  the  State  of  New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life  in  their  communities  and  this
great Empire State; and

  WHEREAS,  Marilyn  D.  Mosley of Brooklyn, New York, died on Monday,
May 4, 2026; and

  WHEREAS, Known fondly as "Mama  Mosley"  to  those  who  loved  her,
Marilyn  D.    Mosley  was  born  and  raised in Brooklyn, New York, and
attended New York City public schools, including PS 29  and  Girls  High
School; and

  WHEREAS,  Upon graduating from New York City public schools in 1959,
Marilyn D.  Mosley  attended  Morgan  State  University  to  obtain  her
bachelor's degree in mathematics; and

  WHEREAS,  Marilyn  D.  Mosley  later  graduated  cum laude from City
College with a master's degree in science and mathematics education  and
a  second master's degree in educational administration and supervision;
while attending college, she was  inducted  into  Phi  Delta  Kappa  and
joined Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; and

  WHEREAS,  At  the start of her career, Marilyn D. Mosley worked as a
sixth-grade  teacher  at  PS  29;  she  served  in   several   teaching,
supervisory,  and  administrative  roles,  including  as director of the
Citywide Task Force on Pregnant and Parenting Teens in the 1980s; and

  WHEREAS, Marilyn D. Mosley distinguished herself in  her  profession
and  by  her  sincere  dedication  and  substantial  contribution to the
welfare of her community; and

  WHEREAS, As a dedicated and committed educator,  Marilyn  D.  Mosley
spent  over  25  years  of  her  career as a public school educator; she
changed the lives of many high school students by advising and assisting
students  with  obtaining  grants  and  scholarships  to  pursue  higher
education; and

  WHEREAS,  A  firm  believer  in closing the equity gap in education,
Marilyn D. Mosley often donated her  own  resources  to  New  York  City
public   schools   to   ensure  all  students  had  adequate  enrichment
programming; and

  WHEREAS, Marilyn D.  Mosley's  commitment  to  excellence,  and  her
spirit  of  humanity,  carried  over  into  all  fields  of  enterprise,
including charitable and civic endeavors; and

  WHEREAS, Outside of education, Marilyn D. Mosley was  very  involved
with  local  government,  and  she  worked  as  an assistant to Brooklyn

Borough President Howard Golden and as an administrative manager for the
city comptroller's office from 1992  to  2018;  she  also  served  as  a
special advisor to New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson from 2018
to 2022; and

  WHEREAS,  Having  successfully  advised  and  assisted several local
government leaders, Marilyn D. Mosley founded and  led  the  Progressive
Association   for  Political  Action  Democratic  Club,  which  supports
progressive Democrats running for office in Central Brooklyn; and

  WHEREAS, With a strong desire to make a difference in her community,
Marilyn D. Mosley served as a delegate to the 2004  Democratic  National
Convention  for  the  10th Congressional District and as District Leader
for the New York State 57th Assembly District; and

  WHEREAS,  In  all  of  her  community   leadership   and   political
opportunities, Marilyn D. Mosley prioritized mobilizing her communities,
always  ensuring  that  the  interests of the underrepresented was a top
priority in her advocacy; and

  WHEREAS, Above  all  else,  Marilyn  D.  Mosley  was  a  unique  and
monumental  individual who approached each day with abundant generosity,
selfless dedication, a desire to nurture others,  and  a  commitment  to
strengthening community bonds; and

  WHEREAS,  Armed  with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Marilyn D. Mosley leaves behind a  legacy  which  will  long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
she served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the life and legacy of Marilyn D. Mosley,  distinguished  citizen,
respected leader, and devoted member of her community; and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Marilyn D. Mosley.
