Mourning the death of John T. Calvert, distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community

Senate Resolution No. 2245

        MOURNING   the   death   of   John   T.   Calvert,
        distinguished citizen  and  devoted  member  of  his
        community

  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens  of  the  State  of  New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and

  WHEREAS, John T. Calvert, of Croton-on-Hudson,  New  York,  died  on
February 16, 2026, at the age of 84; and

  WHEREAS, John T. Calvert was born to Thomas E. and Theresa (Cofield)
Calvert in Bronx, New York, on January 11, 1942; and

  WHEREAS,  John  Calvert  spent  a  lifetime  in  the  service of his
country, serving in the United States Army for two separate enlistments;
after serving the first time from 1959-1962, he was hired as an  officer
with  the New York City Police Department, assigned to the 46th Precinct
in the Bronx; and

  WHEREAS, In 1966, John Calvert re-enlisted in the  Army,  responding
to  a  sense  of  duty  during  the  Vietnam  War;  he was trained as an
Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Specialist and was  sent  to  overseas
duty  in South Korea; upon his final discharge from the Army in 1969, he
found a temporary security job as a "Peace Cop" with the  organizers  of
an outdoor music festival in Woodstock, New York; and

  WHEREAS,  In  1971,  John Calvert returned to the police force as an
investigator  with  the  Westchester  County  Sheriffs'  Department  and
ultimately  retired  as  a lieutenant; additionally, he served as a desk
officer, Detective Squad  Supervisor,  and  Commanding  Officer  of  the
Police Academy; and

  WHEREAS,  After  his  retirement  in  1990,  John  Calvert worked as
Financial Aid Officer for Pace University, spent a  small  time  with  a
custom  picture  framing  business,  and  eventually transported special
needs children for the Croton Harmon School District; his calm demeanor,
ultimate patience, and understanding smile made him  a  beloved  fixture
for children who knew him as simply "John"; and

  WHEREAS,  John Calvert spent his remaining years dedicating his time
to his family; and

  WHEREAS, Leaving behind a remarkable legacy of public service,  John
T.    Calvert  is survived by his wife, Hannah, whom he loved since they
were teenagers; brother, Eugene Calvert; three sons, Thomas, John  Paul,
and  James; and grandchildren, Caroline, Jack, Matthew, Eve, Nicole, and
Emilie; he  was  predeceased  by  his  sister,  Rosemary  McCarthy,  and
brother, Thomas Calvert; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of John T. Calvert and to honor his enduring legacy; and
be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of John T. Calvert.
