        HONORING  Sheila  Dixon  upon  the occasion of her
        induction into the Schenectady City School  District
        Athletic Hall of Fame on September 14, 2026

  WHEREAS,  Excellence  and  success  in  competitive  sports  can  be
achieved only through strenuous practice, team  play  and  team  spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and

  WHEREAS,  Athletic  competition  enhances  the  moral  and  physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing  them  for  the
future  by  instilling  in  them  the  value  of teamwork, encouraging a
standard  of  healthy  living,  imparting  a  desire  for  success   and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

  WHEREAS,  It  is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those outstanding athletes who inspired and brought pride
to their school  and  community  by  achieving  outstanding  success  in
competition,  attaining  unprecedented  success and the highest level of
personal achievement; and

  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Sheila  Dixon  upon  the  occasion of her induction into the Schenectady
City School District Athletic Hall of Fame at its 2026 Schenectady  City
School  District  Athletic  Hall  of  Fame  &  Reunion Dinner on Monday,
September 14, 2026, at the Event  Center  at  Rivers  Casino  &  Resort,
Schenectady, New York; and

  WHEREAS,  Sheila  Dixon was a four-year varsity basketball player at
Schenectady High School, and led Schenectady  to  the  2008-09  Big  Ten
girls'  basketball  title,  averaging  13.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.6
assists; and

  WHEREAS, In her  senior  year,  Sheila  Dixon  had  35  points,  ten
rebounds  and ten assists in a 93-92 overtime victory over Amsterdam and
was named the Big Ten Conference's Most Valuable Player; and

  WHEREAS, Following a stellar high school career, Sheila Dixon played
college basketball  at  Brown  University,  where  she  averaged  double
figures in three of her four varsity seasons finishing with 1,070 career
points; and

  WHEREAS,  As  a junior, Sheila Dixon was named Cox Sports Division I
Rhode Island Women's Player of the Year; and

  WHEREAS, Sheila Dixon was an All-Ivy League second team selection as
a sophomore and a junior and honorable mention selection  as  a  senior,
earning Ivy League Player of the Week twice during her career; and

  WHEREAS,  Recognized  by her peers, Sheila Dixon is also a member of
the New York State Basketball Hall of Fame; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
honor  Sheila  Dixon  upon  the  occasion  of  her  induction  into  the
Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of Fame on September  14,
2026; and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of  this Resolution suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Sheila Dixon.
