Assembly Resolution No. 1190

        COMMEMORATING  the  50th Anniversary of the Vestal
        Museum

  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize  and
pay   tribute   to  those  organizations  of  high  purpose  and  worthy
accomplishment whose endeavors have faithfully served the welfare of the
citizens of the State of New York; and

  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is  justly proud to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Vestal Museum; and

  WHEREAS, The Vestal Railroad Station was  built  as  the  Lackawanna
Railroad  Depot  for the Town of Vestal and started service in 1881; the
line connected New York City to Buffalo, providing passenger service  to
Vestal  from  1881  until  1959;  the  famous train, "Phoebe Snow," made
regular stops at this station; and

  WHEREAS, The Town of Vestal purchased the Depot in 1972 and moved it
to its present location in the parking lot near the Vestal Library;  the
Vestal  Historical Society led the restoration of the Depot which opened
as a museum in June of 1976; and

  WHEREAS, Since 1976, the Vestal Museum has managed a  collection  of
countless  local  items  and  hosts both permanent and rotating exhibits
that detail  the  industrial  and  social  history  of  Vestal  and  the
surrounding Southern Tier region; and

  WHEREAS,  The  Vestal  Museum itself serves as a functional historic
landmark, preserving the unique architectural style of the original D.L.
& W. Station for public access; it offers specialized programs for local
schools and the public, often collaborating with the  Vestal  Historical
Society to provide guided tours and historical lectures; and

  WHEREAS,  The  success of the Vestal Museum is in direct correlation
to the efforts of its members, whose  involvement  is,  and  always  has
been,   characterized   by   an   impressive  commitment,  an  unbridled
enthusiasm,  and  an  uncompromising  standard  of  excellence  in   all
endeavors; and

  WHEREAS,  It  is  the  sense  of  this  Legislative  Body  that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated  and  recognized  by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Vestal Museum and to  honor  its
members, past and present, who have labored so conscientiously to secure
and  improve  the quality of life for the citizens of the community; and
be it further

  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to the Vestal Museum.
