        MEMORIALIZING  Governor  Kathy  Hochul to proclaim
        July 31, 2026, as Lifeguard Appreciation Day in  the
        State of New York

  WHEREAS,  It  is  the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
official days that are set aside to recognize  certain  individuals  who
affect the lives of citizens of New York State; and

  WHEREAS,  Attendant  to  such  concern,  and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this  Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud  to
memorialize  Governor  Kathy  Hochul  to  proclaim  July  31,  2026,  as
Lifeguard Appreciation Day in the State of New York; and

  WHEREAS, The annual observance of Lifeguard Appreciation Day on July
31st provides an opportunity for the  people  of  the  Empire  State  to
recognize  the  vital  contributions  of  the lifeguards in communities,
large and small, throughout New York; and

  WHEREAS, This Legislative  Body  is  proud  to  recognize  that  the
quality  of  life in the communities across this great State of New York
is enriched by the diligence and  commitment  of  those  lifeguards  who
ensure the safety and welfare of others; and

  WHEREAS, To be eligible for employment as a lifeguard within the New
York  State  Parks  system,  all candidates must take and pass an annual
State-administered qualifying procedure; and

  WHEREAS,  The  qualifying  process  consists  of  two  sections,   a
practical   demonstration   of   lifesaving   skills   and  a  practical
demonstration of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) skills;  candidates
must pass both sections to be considered for employment; and

  WHEREAS,  New  York  State  Parks  lifeguards  protect  more than 25
million  swimmers  and  perform  thousands  of  rescues  annually;  this
Legislative  Body  acknowledges  and honors those individuals who ensure
the safety and well-being of their fellow New Yorkers;  now,  therefore,
be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize  Governor  Kathy  Hochul  to  proclaim  July  31,  2026,  as
Lifeguard Appreciation Day in the State of New York; and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Kathy Hochul, Governor of the State of  New
York.
