Assembly Resolution No. 1469

        CELEBRATING  the 85th Anniversary of the Civil Air
        Patrol New York Wing

  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize  and
commend  organizations  that  have  demonstrated  enduring commitment to
public service, community safety, education, and volunteerism throughout
our great State; and

  WHEREAS, The Civil Air Patrol (CAP), founded on  December  1,  1941,
stands as the official Auxiliary of the United States Air Force, and for
more  than eight decades has exemplified the highest ideals of volunteer
service, aviation skill, and civic responsibility; and

  WHEREAS, The Civil Air Patrol New York Wing has proudly  served  the
citizens  of  this  State  since its establishment, embodying CAP's core
missions of Emergency Services, Cadet Programs, and Aerospace Education;
and

  WHEREAS, During World War II, Civil Air Patrol members  courageously
defended  our  coasts,  patrolled  vital  shipping  lanes, and performed
essential missions that  protected  our  nation's  security-an  enduring
legacy  that continues through the New York Wing's modern-day search and
rescue, disaster relief, and homeland security missions; and

  WHEREAS,  CAP  members  assisted   rescuers   and   state   agencies
immediately  following  the  Sept.  11, 2001, terrorist attacks, heavily
supported hurricane relief efforts in 2012 and  2021  during  Superstorm
Sandy,  Hurricanes Ida and Henry, and in response to the COVID pandemic,
as well as aided communities during other  natural  disasters,  such  as
floods, wildfires, ice storms, and tornadoes; and

  WHEREAS,  Today, more than 2,200 volunteers across the New York Wing
contribute thousands of hours annually in service to their  communities,
supporting   emergency   management   operations,   search  and  rescue,
conducting  aerial  reconnaissance,  mentoring   youth   through   cadet
leadership  programs,  and inspiring the next generation of aviators and
innovators; and

  WHEREAS, The New York  Wing's  dedication  to  integrity,  volunteer
service, excellence, and respect reflects the shared values of our State
and  Nation,  strengthening  communities across New York from Buffalo to
Long Island; and

  WHEREAS, On this momentous occasion, the members  of  the  New  York
State  Legislature join in recognizing the 85th Anniversary of the Civil
Air Patrol and in honoring the men and women of the Civil Air Patrol New
York Wing who have given  so  selflessly  in  service  to  others;  now,
therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 85th Anniversary of the Civil Air Patrol New York  Wing,
extending    heartfelt   appreciation   and   congratulations   to   its

members-past, present, and future-for their distinguished service to the
State of New York and the United States of America; and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  copies  of  this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the leadership and membership of the Civil Air Patrol New
York Wing with best wishes for continued success in their noble  mission
and enduring contribution to the safety and education of our citizens.
