Congratulating James J. Weir upon the occasion of his honorary induction into the 2026 SUNY Oneonta Athletics Hall of Fame

        CONGRATULATING  James J. Weir upon the occasion of
        his honorary induction into the  2026  SUNY  Oneonta
        Athletics Hall of Fame

  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding  athletes  who  have  distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and

  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is  justly proud to
congratulate James J. Weir upon the occasion of his  honorary  induction
into the 2026 SUNY Oneonta Athletics Hall of Fame; he will be honored on
Saturday, June 6, 2026, as part of Alumni Weekend; and

  WHEREAS,  James  Weir  spent 39 years of service to the SUNY Oneonta
Athletics Department, including 20 years as Head Janitor  in  the  Field
House;  during his years of service, he was a tireless worker and always
went above and beyond the parameters of his job; and

  WHEREAS, Always smiling, James Weir was a friend to the thousands of
student-athletes with whom  he  interacted;  his  contributions  to  the
Athletics  Department  earned him the Ross Cordell Contributors Award in
2015; and

  WHEREAS, Outside the Oneonta campus, James Weir impacted many  young
people  through his coaching and umpiring in the region; he spent almost
half a century coaching baseball, girls' basketball, and softball; and

  WHEREAS, Some of James  Weir's  accomplishments  include  16  league
championships,   three   sectional   championships,   and  one  regional
championship; and

  WHEREAS, James Weir has amassed more than 900 wins among all sports,
placing him in a select group of high school coaches;  additionally,  he
has  been  inducted  into the Tri-Valley Coaches and Legends of Baseball
Halls of Fame; and

  WHEREAS, It  is  the  sense  of  this  Legislative  Body  that  when
individuals  of such outstanding athletic accomplishments are brought to
our attention, they should be recognized by all  the  citizens  of  this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate James J. Weir upon the occasion of his  honorary  induction
into the 2026 SUNY Oneonta Athletics Hall of Fame; and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to James J. Weir.
