Assembly Resolution No. 1589

        RECOGNIZING  the first Sunday in November, for the
        40th consecutive year, on November 1, 2026,  as  New
        York  City Marathon Sunday in the State of New York,
        in conjunction with  the  50th  Anniversary  of  the
        5-borough marathon

  WHEREAS, The New York City Marathon is a microcosm of New York City:
its  participants  strive  to  push  human  limits, inspire, and promote
broader well-being; and

  WHEREAS, The New York City Marathon's extraordinary reach and impact
warrants statewide commemoration, recognizing the integral role the race
plays showcasing NYC's trademark drive for  excellence  on  the  world's
stage; and

  WHEREAS,  The  first  running  of  the  New York City 5-borough race
happened in 1976 and the 2026 race marks its 50th Anniversary; and

  WHEREAS, The New York City Marathon brings together pro-athletes and
novice runners while hundreds of millions around the world cheer them to
successful completion of the 26.2 miles as it winds through the greatest
City in the world; and

  WHEREAS, The cultural and economic impacts  of  the  New  York  City
Marathon  have  extended  far  beyond  the  borders  of  New  York City,
representing the City globally and showing the City's resiliency,  grit,
and unfaltering drive; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize November 1, 2026, as York City Marathon Sunday in the State of
New York, in conjunction with the  50th  Anniversary  of  the  5-borough
marathon; and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  copies  of  this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Kathy Hochul, Governor of the State of  New
York; and New York Road Runners.
