Armed Forces, so profoundly strengthen our shared commitment to the
exercise of freedom; and

WHEREAS, 78 years ago, on June 12, 1948, President Harry S. Truman
signed into law the Women's Armed Services Integration Act of 1948 (P.L.
625-80th Congress); this law insured that women would have a permanent
place in the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps; and

WHEREAS, For decades, women veterans served their country with honor
and valor and excelled in all levels of the military through their
demonstrated military capabilities; their distinguished role in the
defense of our country is recognized and commended; and

WHEREAS, The armed forces have nurtured a spirit of integrity,
service and respect that passes on into civilian life; the unification
of women into the armed forces goes to further the basic tenets of these
three principles and serves as an example to future generations of the
strength that lies in working together for a common good; and

WHEREAS, Through its avowed commitment to those who have served in
the cause of America's Freedom, the 78th Anniversary of the signing of
the Women's Armed Services Integration Act of 1948 does so unselfishly
advance that spirit of united purpose and shared concern which is the
unalterable manifestation of our American experience; now, therefore, be

country; and to most proudly commemorate the 78th Anniversary of the
signing of the Women's Armed Services Integration Act of 1948, which
later came to be known as Women's Veterans Recognition Day, fully
confident that such procedure mirrors our shared commitment to preserve,
to ensure and to yet effect that patrimony of freedom which is our
American heritage; and be it further
