          printed to be committed to the Committee on Local Government

        AN ACT in relation to authorizing Larry Mendel to receive his  30  years
          of service credit granting eligibility for the length of service award
          program

          THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
        BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

     1    Section 1. Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, Larry
     2  Mendel, who retired from his position as a volunteer  firefighter  after
     3  more than 30 years with the Patterson Volunteer Fire Department, through
     4  no  fault  of his own, was not awarded the length of service award under
     5  article 11-A of the general municipal law for  working  such  time  with
     6  such  fire department. His certificates stating and commemorating his 30
     7  years of service shall be adequate  to  prove  his  time  served.  Larry
     8  Mendel  shall  be awarded the benefits under the length of service award
     9  program he would have received had there been appropriate  record  keep-
    10  ing.
    11    § 2. All costs associated with implementing the provisions of this act
    12  shall  be  borne  by  Glatfelter  Specialty  Benefits  pursuant to their
    13  contractual obligations with the Patterson Volunteer Fire Department for
    14  administering the length of  service  award  program  established  under
    15  article 11-A of the general municipal law.
    16    § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
